Well, July is over. This was an exciting month. First, I celebrated my birthday in the first week of July. Secondly, it was my first month living on my own in my own place. As the month progressed I have a better (though incomplete) idea of what my expenses will be each month. And lastly, I started My Dividend Dynasty! Here I am documenting my financial journey into the wonderful world of dividend investing and building a passive income stream that will enable financial independence.
With that, I am posting my monthly dividend results for the first time. This is my “off” month when it comes to dividends. I receive the least amount of dividend income on the months of January, April, July, and October. But nevertheless, even an “off” month is a good month. This month I received $377.44 in dividends from 3 companies.
Medical Properties Trust (MPW) – $216.00
Starwood Property Trust (STWD) – $103.20
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) – $58.24
July 2017 Dividend Income Total: $377.44
This is actually a slight decrease from April when those same 3 stocks paid me $387.14 in dividend income. What happened? Well, GSK has a fluctuating dividend and declared a lower dividend for this quarter. We will see what happens next quarter. I did not keep track of monthly dividends last year, so I cannot give an accurate year by year comparison.
However, I do know I never received dividends from STWD last year, so that would mean this July my dividend income got a boost of $103.20. Sounds good to me. Those dividends I received will be used to buy more stocks as I continue my progress to diversify and invest in high quality dividend growth companies. So this “off” month is still a good month and in more ways than one. So, how did July go for the rest of you?
