With five days to go before some delicious Thanksgiving turkey, I decided to post about hawks and some recent acquisitions. It seems like a good time to talk about large birds so, I got a story to tell. While I was at work last week, I was sitting at my desk and heard a loud crash hit the outside part of an air conditioner that was in the office behind me. I didn’t look immediately as I was busy on the computer, however, after about 20 seconds I went into the room just behind me. And there I saw it!
It was no Thanksgiving turkey, but it was pretty big. It was a large hawk. The hawk was just staring at me at first, but then I noticed something. The hawk had a pigeon in its talons. Then it started to eat the pigeon! I have seen hawks in the area before, but never this close. The bird was only a few feet away and beginning to devour another bird. Even better, I took some pictures and a video of it. Here’s two of the pictures:
So, that was the highland of the workweek. Both my coworkers and I found it quite amusing. I wonder what would have happened if that window had been open and that hawk flew in. Personally, I think I would have found the ensuing chaos pretty funny if it did.
Anyways, I ended up acquiring two new companies this month as the result of two spin-offs. The first was Kyndryl Holdings Inc. (KD) which was spun off of IBM. I acquired 19 shares of KD and $8.11 in cash (from fractional shares). The second was Orion Office Reit (ONL) which was spun off of O. I acquired 18 shares of ONL and $17.21 in cash (again, from fractional shares).
All in all, I ended up with two new stocks, 37 shares, and $25.32 in cash. Thus, my portfolio now has 49 stocks.
Right now, neither company has declared a dividend (although they are expected to do so). I plan on holding my KD shares for the long term and see what happens. However, I am not too sure about ONL. I am lukewarm on it as an office space REIT and may sell at some point in the near future. O is not cutting its dividend either way (in fact O, just raised its dividend).
And so, we near the end of a month of spin-offs, stock acquisitions, and birds. My portfolio is now set to generate $12,084 in dividend income over the next 12 months. Marching onwards towards achieving my goals as I build my dividend dynasty! Other than hawks and recent acquisitions, I am planning for a calm end to the month that includes lots of delicious food. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
So, how about the rest of you? Did you receive the spin-off companies? Are you planning on holding or selling? Also, are you looking forward to a Thanksgiving feast? Let me know in the comments below.
