August 2019 is now in the books and it is time to post my dividend income! While August was not as eventful as July, I did make three new stock purchases (LYB, LEG, and T) that added $553 in forward dividend income to my portfolio. I have been the process of re-balancing my portfolio a bit and have just about completed the process. As a result, however, my dividend income this month is lower than previous mid-quarter months. While it stinks to have lower dividend income, I know it is just some temporary pain in exchange for long term gain. For August 2019, I received $665.39 in dividend income from seven (7) companies.
- AT&T (T) – $172.38
- Sprague Resources (SRLP) – $116.81
- Omega Healthcare Investors (OHI) – $229.68
- Procter & Gamble Company (PG) – $18.65
- Realty Income Corp (O) – $42.58
- General Mills (GIS) – $49.98
- AbbVie Inc. (ABBV) – $35.31
August 2019 Dividend Income Total: $665.39
When compared year over year, this month shows a 25.4% decrease from August 2018. This was expected since I sold a large amount of SRLP back in June as part of my summer portfolio re-balance. Most of what was lost this quarter was actually distributed to my first quarter “off” months. As a result, those quarter starting months will see a nice boost. Also, my recent T buy did not contribute to this month’s dividend income but will be added to my next mid-quarter month (November). To add another positive to the list, there were those dividend increases (and one decrease)!
I guess I will start with the decrease. GSK decreased its dividend to $0.4569 per share. Nothing shocking, as GSK’s dividend is always different each quarter. This lowered my forward yearly dividend income from $234.14 to $219.31 for a total $14.83 decrease from GSK. Next, ITW increased their dividend to $1.07 per share. This raised my forward annual dividend income from $60.00 to $64.20 for a total $4.20 increase from ITW. Lastly, MPW increased their dividend to $0.26 per share. This raised my forward yearly dividends from $900.00 to $936.00 for a total $36.00 increase from MPW!
Overall, I ended up with $40.20 from dividend increases this August. If you subtract the decrease, then I have a net gain of $25.37 in forward dividend income! Even though I took a temporary hit to my dividend income this month, I believe my portfolio is stronger now then before. My portfolio now stands to generate $9,469 in dividend income over the next 12 months! So how did you do this month? Let me know in the comments below!
