Happiness is a Burger and Fries – Treat Yourself

You read that right! Happiness is a burger and fries – every now and then you need to treat yourself.

As dividend growth investors we are often look forward to the future.

The next dividend raises, the next dividend payout, the next milestone reached, and the day we achieve financial independence and freedom.

Most of us are always quite frugal and conscious of our budgets.

All of these traits are great to have and necessary for financial success.

However, at the same time, it is important to celebrate and enjoy the present moment.

This doesn’t mean go out tonight and blow hundreds of dollars you can’t afford on food, drinks, and renting luxury cars, however fun that may be.

But it does mean you need to treat yourself every now and then and enjoy life in the present.

Sink Your Teeth into That

I’m a burger and fries’ kind of guy. (I love Italian food as well)

But this is not something I would eat every day, even if I was a millionaire.

After all, it would not be healthy all the time. I exercise and workout regularly every week to keep in good physical shape.

My health and fitness are very important to me. Yet, I know taking it to the extreme would lead to a less enjoyable life.

In fact, that extreme would probably make life unhealthy.

Imagine going through life trying to avoid eating anything deemed unhealthy in the name of health and fitness. You would never be happy, which itself is no good for your health.

Don’t get me wrong, I turned down food before simply because I know my limits.

But every now and then, a good burger and some fries really hits the spot.

Conclusion: Happiness is a Burger and Fries – Treat Yourself

Often setting money and time aside to do things you like improves your mood, energy, and stamina.

There is nothing wrong with treating yourself every now and then without worry. Moderation is key. You don’t have to regret treating yourself to a meal you like.

As long as treating yourself doesn’t result in long-term harm or negative consequences (like so much of instant gratification culture does), then it is fine in moderation.

I would also argue that moderation is what makes treating yourself even more enjoyable since it is not an everyday thing.

Every so often is nice to enjoy some great food at a nice restaurant. Eat something you enjoy.

Whether with family, friends, or by yourself, treat yourself to something nice.
