May 2019 Dividend Income

Another month is gone and it is time to report on my dividend income for May 2019! Looking back, May was a pretty busy month for me. Life was busier, work was busier, and I closed the month by buying a new air-conditioning unit. My old AC was 6,000 BTU’s but never got my apartment cool enough for my tastes. I was actually planning to buy a new AC last year, but instead I decided to endure it and save a bit extra. This year I made sure I bought a new one. This AC is 10,000 BTU’s and is working out great. But without further ado, for May 2019, I received $919.46 in dividend income from seven (7) companies.

AT&T (T) – $172.38

Sprague Resources (SRLP) – $383.81

Omega Healthcare Investors (OHI) – $229.68

Procter & Gamble Company (PG) – $18.65

Realty Income Corp (O) – $42.49

General Mills (GIS) – $49.98

AbbVie Inc. (ABBV) – $22.47

May 2019 Dividend Income Total: $919.46

And with that, we have a new record mid-quarter month. The record is only $0.82 higher than my previous mid-quarter month which was February, but it is still a record nonetheless. This month’s dividend numbers reveal a 10.77% year over year growth increase when compared to May 2018! I do love double digit growth rates! Also, I obtained a new stock this month: Kontoor Brands (KTB) which was spun off by VF Corp (VFC). I received 9 shares of KTB (value was around $364 on its first day of trading) and $20.24 cash. I will hang onto this stock and see what happens.

Next there are dividend increases (and a decrease). First, PEP increased their dividend to $0.955 per share. This raised my forward annual dividend income from $66.78 to $68.76 for a total $1.98 increase from PEP. Second, there was CAH which dividend to $0.4811 per share. This raised my forward yearly dividend income from $85.72 to $86.60 for a total $0.88 increase from CAH.

Lastly, there was GSK which decreased their dividend to $0.4878 per share. This was not shocking. They raised their dividend quite high last quarter and I knew it would not last. GSK’s dividend is different each quarter. This lowered my forward yearly dividend income from $283.20 to $234.14 for a total $49.06 decrease from GSK.

Therefore, in tallying up the totals of dividend increases and decreases sends me in the red for the month. The total amount for dividend increases was $2.86. However, subtracting the decrease for GSK and the month shows a net $46.20 loss in dividends. I am not panicked by this at all and I know future stock purchases and organic dividend increases will fully make up the loss. All in all, I am still on track to reach my goals and I am on course to break the $10K mark in forward yearly dividends. As of this post, my portfolio is set to generate $9,722 in dividend income over the next 12 months!

So, how did the rest of you do? Break any mid-quarter records? In addition, did any of you receive shares and/or cash from the KTB spin off? Let me know in the comments below!
