Recent Buy (NNN) and Recent Sell (SRLP)

I made a slight portfolio tweak with my recent buy (NNN) and recent sell (SRLP). With that, I am completely out of my position in SRLP. I have slowly been reducing my position in SRLP over the course of the last 3 years and now that process is complete. This stock actually paid me over $1,500 in annual dividends back when I had a huge position 4 years ago. I brought that position down slowly until my forward dividends stood at $80 in annual dividends. The final factor that led to this stocks elimination from my portfolio is that they are planning to cut the distribution next quarter.

Another interesting fact about SRLP is that I owned that stock for 7 years and collected a grand total of $6,032 in dividend income during that time. At the time of elimination, SRLP accounted for less than .02% of my portfolio’s value and 0.7% of my portfolio’s yearly dividend income (down from 20% 4 years ago). Overall, it was not a devastation blow losing this stock. With the sell of SRLP I lost $80.10 in forward dividend income. Most of the loss was made up again with my recent buy.

Last week I bought 31 shares of National Retail Properties (NNN). Thus, adding on to a position I already had. This purchase added $65.72 to my forward dividend income. Altogether, NNN will now generate $154.76 in dividend income over the next 12 months.

All in all, when you compute the numbers (dividends lost from sell and dividends gained from buy), I end up with a net loss of $14.38 in forward dividend income. If you want to factor in dividend increases this month, you can cut the net loss to about $5. Overall, this portfolio tweak resulted in miniscule damage. In fact, I would say my portfolio is even stronger now for the long term. Kind of like pruning a tree to get rid of dying branches. In the end, the tree is healthier and stronger.

In conclusion, that is my recent buy (NNN) and recent sell (SRLP). A weak link has been removed and a hole in the ship has been plugged. As of this post, my portfolio is now set to generate $11,770 in dividend income over the next 12 months. Still in the homestretch to crossing the $12K mark! I continue down the path to achieving my goals and financial independence! I continue to build my dividend dynasty!

So, what do you think of my recent buy and sell? Do you own any of the stocks mentioned above? Also, do you tweak your portfolio from time to time? Let me know in the comments below.
