Recent Buys (VZ, CVX, DUK) Plus the $10K Milestone

Boom! The new year begins with a bang as my recent buys have pushed me passed the $10K milestone in yearly forward dividend income! After a year of anticipation, I have officially entered 5-digit dividend territory. It almost feels like a dream. With my recent buys for January 2019, my portfolio is now set to generate $10,011 in dividend income over the next 12 months! I made three purchases throughout the course of last week. It has been a long while since I made three purchases like that, but it was well worth it! But without further ado, my three new buys: Verizon (VZ), Chevron (CVX), and Duke Energy (DUK).

Last week, I bought 17 shares of Chevron Corp. (CVX) which added $80.92 to my forward annual dividend income. Thus, CVX became the 30th stock in my portfolio. It has been several years since I made an energy stock purchase. I have learned to be more cautious with energy stocks based on past experience. However, I am comfortable with a small position which amounts to less them 1% of my total portfolio and less than 1% of total dividend income.

My second purchase last week was 34 shares of Verizon (VZ) which added $83.64 to my forward yearly dividend income. Thus, VZ became the 31st stock in my portfolio. Finally, my last buy to close out the week was 22 shares of Duke Energy (DUK) which added $83.16 to my forward annual dividends. As a result, DUK became the 32nd stock in my portfolio. Working to diversify my portfolio these past two years as certainly been successful. Hard to imagine, but I when started this website I had just 12 stocks in my portfolio.

Altogether, my three recent buys added a total of $247.72 to my forward dividend income for the year and pushed me passed the $10K milestone! Not a bad way to put $6,000 to work. Saving, investing, and repeating the process has certainly paid off! ย I have recently set goals for 2020 (and will review 2019โ€™s goals next week), but what is the next major milestone? The next milestone is $12,000 in dividends per year which equals $1,000 in dividends per month. That is the next major mark to hit. I think I can safely say, 2020 is off to a great financial start!

So, what do you think of my recent buys? Any of these on your watchlist? Already own these awesome companies? Do you have any major milestones you expect to reach in 2020? Let me know in the comments below!
