Why Most People Hate Their Job

Every wonder why most people hate their job? If you have a job, you probably know more than one reason.

Honestly, I don’t think I know one person that likes their job.

Just over the last 8 months, I came across people from all wage levels who just dislike their job. In fact, they told me so.

When I was having my bedbug problem, the exterminator told me he hates his job. When I was looking to purchase material for my bathroom renovations, the salesman didn’t like his job.

The installer who put in the new bath fixture, he told me he couldn’t wait to get out of his current job.

I guess I bring out the honesty in people, lol.

I know a nurse who doesn’t like her job. Also, I know a high-ranking attorney who makes six-figures, and doesn’t even want show up at work anymore each morning.

But why do most people hate their job?

The Usual Reasons Why Most People Hate Their Job

The reasons may be long work hours, low wages, dealing with rude customers, back-stabbing coworkers, and/or your boss is an incompetent SOB.

Maybe, your supervisors are just inconsiderate, there’s no room for advancement, a hostile work environment exits, and/or you’re under pressure to watch everything you say or be fired.

Perhaps you just don’t like your work, there isn’t enough resources provided to do your job to the satisfaction of your bosses, and/or maybe the passion for the job has been lost.

There are a multitude of reasons why most people hate their jobs. And it may be a combination of things mentioned above.

All of those are legitimate reasons to hate your job.

However, I believe there is an overarching reason that transcends all those reasons above. A yearning deep within us all that is suppressed by our 9-5 jobs.

That yearning is for freedom.

Happiness is Found in Freedom, not 9 to 5 Jobs.

When you’re working for someone else in the rat race, your time is not your own. It’s your employers.

You job dictates what time you have to get up in the morning, when you can eat lunch, and what time you can go home to your family. You job dictates what you must do for at least 8 hours per day (or more).

If you don’t like it for whatever reason, you have no choice. Your job provides the money you need to put a roof over your head and the money you use you feed yourself and your family.

You need your job (often more then your job needs you). You are stuck. Enslaved!

Your job isn’t freedom! That is a key reason why most people hate their jobs.

People are frequently happier (and healthier) when they have more free time, then when they are working constantly for money.

In fact, there was a study which analyzed the so called “weekend effect”. People experience getter happiness, greater vitality, less aches and pains, on weekends when they are off from work.

Why? This is largely associated with having the freedom to choose one’s activities, instead of a job dictating your activities.

Indeed, when employees have the freedom to choose their hours in a flexible schedule, they are overall happier and more productive.

Although most jobs do not offer such arrangements, this shows how the freedom to control your time, correlates directly with your happiness.

Break Free by Achieving Financial Independence

How does one get out of the rat race? How does one free themselves from their job? The answer is in building streams of passive income!

But this is where things get tricky. In order to achieve financial independence and build sources of passive income you need money. And your job is the main source for your money.

Therefore, nearly everyone will have to use the money from their job as the springboard to financial freedom.

That may mean saving a certain percentage each month for investments. That will also likely mean living within or below your means and/or adopting a more minimalistic lifestyle.

A minimalist lifestyle has its own rewards in terms of happiness. With less things to spend on and worry about, you can afford to work less hours and maximize your freedom.

The way to accumulate the wealth needed for your financial freedom is to spend less then you earn and wisely invest the difference. From those investments comes passive income streams.

Once your passive income grows large enough, you can decide to live life on your own terms.

For some that means finally quitting their job and leaving the rat race. But ultimately financial freedom means being able to decide how to use your time as you see fit.

Conclusion

So, why do most people hate their jobs? There are many reasons, but I believe a large part comes down to the lack of freedom inherent in all 9 to 5 jobs.

There is an intrinsic yearning to be free within the human spirit.

So, what about me? Do I hate my job? Let’s just say… I tolerate my job (for now).

In the meanwhile, I am working to achieve financial freedom via dividend growth investing.

Over the years, I have built a six-figure portfolio of dividend growth stocks that generates over $13,000 in dividend income per year. That’s over $1,000 per month in passive income!

Little by little, I am working towards my goals and building my dividend dynasty!
